Developing potential
Dunkeld Pastoral Company’s passion for training and professional development extend to those starting their career. DPC offers school, TAFE and University based agricultural apprenticeships, traineeships and placements as well as a Agribusiness graduate program. These avenues offer exciting opportunities for people looking to start a career in the agricultural and agribusiness sector.
Rhiannon Hennessy - 2021 Agribusiness Graduate
The DPC graduate program was filled with opportunity and learning. DPC is a large company comprising of many different operations that work together allowing a unique opportunity to work with many different people and in many aspects of agriculture including livestock, conservation, and business. I think the real value in this diversity is seeing how the aspects work together and can be applied in any setting.
DPC is a forward-thinking company that is open to trying new ideas and methods to reach their goals. I loved the opportunity to be able to work with a range of techniques and some new projects implemented by different people in a team that had vast range of experience that I could learn from. These aspects allowed me to explore my passions, and have given me a solid footing which I expect will propel my career.
I would recommend that anyone who is interested in farming, business, finance, agri-tourism, management or experience in any of these fields apply for the graduate role as it can take you anywhere.
Agribusiness Graduate Program
Our Agribusiness Graduate program has been designed to expand Dunkeld Pastoral Company’s commitment to developing young talent within the industry. Typically commencing in July each year, the 12-month role comprises of work both on farm and in the office. The program introduces farm skills, business, strategic planning, finance, and administration in a multifaceted livestock-based operation. The role is driven by a passionate team but can be guided by the individual graduate, as to where their interests lie. The role differs yearly as it adapts with the company and the changing agricultural climate. Comfortable accommodation is available for the duration of the program. See below some comments from our previous graduates.
How to Apply
Applications typically open in March for a July intake, however, we are taking a temporary pause in our Agribusiness Graduate Program for 2025. This allows us to focus on other strategic initiatives and ensure the program's continued excellence when it resumes. We appreciate your interest and look forward to sharing future opportunities with you.

“I really enjoyed working in Western Victoria - there's a lot going on in the area… I would recommend the role to anyone who is willing to work hard and learn. Agricultural experience would be recommended but not necessary. I remember Wayne Johnstone saying that some of the best farm managers that he's heard of in New Zealand had no farming background”
